Campaign Promise

If elected, I will donate 5% of every paycheque to organizations I feel passionately about in their help of our community.

Note: Before reading the preliminary list of organizations I plan to donate to, please know that these organization in no way endorse me, or my campaign. I have not connected with any of them prior to making this campaign promise. These will simply be personal donations of my personal paycheque to causes I believe overall effect positive change in our society. Similarly, just because I believe in the outcome of the work that they do, does not mean I agree with every position they may stand for in the past, present or future. Rather, that overall I believe they currently have a strongly positive impact on our community.

CAMH: The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health

DBFB: Daily Bread Food Bank

  • My understanding is that the DBFB funds support the:

    • Fort York Food Bank: 380 College Street West, Toronto, M6S1V2

    • Parkdale Community Food Bank: 1499 Queen St. W, Toronto, M6R1A3

    • Scott Mission: 502 Spadina Ave, Toronto, M5S2H1

    • Spadina Fort York Community Care: 125 The Esplanade, Toronto, M5E1C3

  • This way, the funds can help the four different locations that are most likely to support different members in our community.

  • If you are experiencing food insecurity, reach out to me too and I am happy to help set you up with a client ID with DBFB so you can visit one of these locations for food

  • I firmly agree with DBFB that “access to food is a basic human right, not a privilege.

RR: Rainbow Railroad

TRCCMWAR: Toronto Rape Crisis Centre / Multicultural Women Against Rape

WCH: Women’s College Hospital

The reason I share this promise with you is:

  • In life, I do not like to make promises unless I am 99% sure I can keep them. I want to be able to make at least 1 firm promise to each of you that I have nearly complete control over keeping*.

  • There are so many things I care to advocate about that affect our community, some of which fall outside of the municipal level of government. Even those that fall within the municipal level of government may still be quite the feat to accomplish when representing 1 of the potential 26 votes in city council. This impact may be lessened if Doug Ford proceeds with implementing the potential new “strong mayor” powers that may veto or limit the strength of my voice in city council. The impact of this potential change will of course also depend on who is elected mayor and how much they choose to leverage any additional powers. So although I will give it my all on my campaign platform if elected, I understand that I cannot control the results of my efforts.

  • Until now, I have only ever been a voter, never a candidate, and many people I’ve spoken with have become disillusioned with politics as a whole. It’s hard to tell truth from a sales pitch. I think there is some truth to the old saying to “Put your money where your mouth is”. So this is me saying and trying to give some proof to you about how much I care about organizations like this and their impact on our community.

  • While I am advocating for short and long term solutions to challenges currently facing our community, this campaign promise at least ensures that every paycheque I earn, a portion is going towards supporting organizations already making a meaningful impact in our community.

I know that there are many other organizations also currently making significant positive impacts in our community, and I am personally grateful for each and every one of them. The organizations listed above are just especially near and dear to my heart.

*Caveat: If unforeseen circumstances require a change to the list of organizations receiving the money, the 5% will still remain the same and the funds just may be donated to other organizations that I feel passionately about that also positively support people in our beautiful community.
